Sept. 2, 2025 -- Lackawanna and Luzerne counties residents soon will have the opportunity to comment on a plan that will determine the region’s transportation priorities through 2050.

The Lackawanna-Luzerne Metropolitan Planning Organization will conduct its second round of open-house “listening sessions” on the region’s 20-year Long-Range Transportation Plan. These sessions will provide an opportunity for the public to review and comment on the draft plan, which is proposed for adoption on Jan. 13.

The LRTP outlines the region’s transportation priorities and will act as a financial guide for infrastructure investments. The MPO, in partnership with Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and technical consultants from Michael Baker International, leads the update process with input from local transit agencies and county representatives.

During the open houses, attendees will be able to review the draft plan, share concerns and suggestions, and engage with the planning staff and project partners.

Public input from the sessions will inform final recommendations and help shape transportation projects that enhance safety, mobility, and economic connectivity across the region.

The schedule:

Luzerne County: Monday, Sept. 8, 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., Wiltsie Center Auditorium, 3 W. 9th St., Hazleton; and Monday, Sept. 15, 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., the Greater Wyoming Valley Jewish Community Center (JCC), 613 S. J. Strauss Lane, Suite #3, Kingston.
Lackawanna County: Tuesday, Sept. 16, 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., Lackawanna County Center for Public Safety, 30 Valley View Drive, Jessup.

Participants may attend any open house, regardless of their place of business or residence.

The Lackawanna/Luzerne Metropolitan Planning Organization is a regional transportation planning entity serving Lackawanna and Luzerne.
