Feb. 4, 2025 -- Lackawanna County farmers have an opportunity to ensure that their land remains secured only for agricultural use, by applying by March 1 for inclusion in the Lackawanna County Land Preservation Program.

The program, administered by the Lackawanna County Conservation District, permanently preserves viable farmland for future generations by paying farmers, on a per-acre basis, for easements that limit the land’s use to farming.

Since the program’s inception in 1994, Lackawanna County has purchase preservation easements on 85 parcels covering 6,600 acres.

Any farmer who would like to apply may contact Eric Johnson at the Lackawanna County Conservation District, at 570-382-3086, or at johnson@lccd.net. The application deadline is March 1.
