Jan. 14, 2026 -- In accordance with the Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000, Lackawanna County has issued the five-year update to its Hazard Mitigation Plan. The Disaster Mitigation Plan enables the county and its municipalities to effectively respond to hazards as they occur and reduce the potential risk to the health, safety and welfare of residents. The goal is for municipalities to continue to be eligible for a range of financial assistance following hazard events.

The plan update is now available for review and the public comment period is in effect. Comments can be submitted to Mary Liz Donato, Director of Planning, at donatoml@lackawannacounty.org, by Friday, Jan. 30.
